O Lord give us the strength to understand ourselves …
for we are mysterious animals, Man …

Our Daily Challenge: seven deadly sins (sloth, or why i never finished college)
the geek behind the curtain: all shots and layers in this image were taken and developed by myself using a hand-held, point-and-shoot camera and the freeware, open source graphics manipulation program called GIMP. it’s because i’m using such low-cost, relatively easy to obtain gear that i believe anyone can make images such as this one. that’s why i call it "Digital-Age, Recession-Era Folk Art." all it takes is practice. i’ve been diligently practicing making 3-6 images a week for around two years. this shot uses more photos than most of my art, plus work has been heavy this week, family duties have been normal, so this took my spare time from roughly 2 days. (also, some of the elements here had been cut out of their original photographic environments previously, which saved time here.)
some examples of shots used here include:
* a photo of a section of flooring from a public building, copied 8 times and either flipped or turned 90 degrees until it made this checkerboard box.
* the "back wall" diamond pattern of the box is a shot of some silver-colored wallpaper from a hospital.
* a shot of some clouds
* shot of the moon
* a shot of a "porthole" i noticed on some local public playground equipment.
* a shot of a sky-light from the local mall
* etc, etc.
